Speaker Bio: Jeremy Geffen, MD, FACP is a board-certified medical oncologist, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a pioneer in integrative medicine and oncology. He is president of Geffen Visions International and director of integrative oncology for P4 Healthcare and Caring4Cancer.com. He is author of the highly-acclaimed book The Journey Through Cancer: Healing and Transforming the Whole Person (Three Rivers Press, 2006) and integrative medicine program The Seven Levels of Healing®. Described as an “oncologist of the future,” Dr. Geffen founded the Geffen Cancer Center and Research Institute (GCCRI) in Vero Beach, Florida, in 1994, which he directed until 2003. GCCRI was one of the first cancer centers in the United States explicitly designed to provide a working model of truly holistic, comprehensive cancer care for the 21st century. The Center was well-known for its ground-breaking Seven Levels of Healing Program, which integrates state-of-the-art conventional cancer treatments with a wide array of complementary therapies designed to help patients and family members heal and transform at the deepest levels of the body, mind, heart, and spirit. Dr. Geffen’s work is now focused on writing, speaking, offering seminars and retreats, and consulting with individuals and organizations in developing integrative and multidimensional programs for medicine and life.

Speaker: Nick Trujillo

Healing Story – Nick Trujillo

Speaker Bio: Nick Trujillo is Professor of Communication Studies at CSUS, where he teaches courses in organizational communication, media sports, and small group communication. He has also been a professor at Purdue, Michigan State, and Southern Methodist universities. He received his B.A. from the University of Southern California, where he also played baseball (a pitcher), his M.A. from San Diego State University, and his Ph. D. from the University of Utah. He has published over forty scholarly and trade articles as well as four books. His last book, Cancer and Death: A Love Story in Two Voices (Hampton, 2008, with Leah Vande Berg) was written together with his wife, who died of ovarian cancer in December, 2004. His alter ego, Gory Bateson, is lead singer of the mythical band The Ethnogs, whose music videos can be found on YouTube under the singer’s name.

Speaker Bio: Pam Quillin, brain tumor survivor – One of the volunteers for this conference, Pam is proud to be an alumni of the very first Healing Journeys’ Cancer As a Turning Point conference in 1994. Since then, she’s managed to thrive (most of the time) while dealing with the continuing effects of radiation, chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, and brain injury symptoms similar to those suffered by returning veterans. All this while guiding a stubborn four-year-old into becoming an independent (though still stubborn) young woman. This experience has provided Pam with a keen awareness of what’s truly important, as well as a finely honed foolishness detector, which she uses readily but with great diplomacy (again, most of the time). A firm believer in the mind-body connection and the healing power of laughter, Pam’s known for her quick wit and caring heart.

Speaker Bio: Gary Malkin is an Emmy award-winning composer, producer, performer, and public speaker, dedicated to making a difference in the world by offering musical experiences and resources that inspire the heart and catalyze societal and individual healing. Speaker Bio: Emmett Miller, MD, one of the fathers of Holistic and Mind/Body Medicine, is a physician, scientist, musician, and master storyteller, whose multicultural heritage has given him a unique social, medical, and spiritual perspective. A graduate of The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Miller has served as lecturer or preceptor at Stanford University, the University of California, and other universities and medical schools. He gained international prominence as a founder and Medical Director of the world’s first Cancer Support and Education Center in Menlo Park (1977).
