FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions – Napa 2011

Can someone come with me if they aren’t pre-registered?

Can I come to only part of the conference if I can’t come to all of it?

Can my husband (or wife, sister, son, friend, etc.) come with me?

Is this only for cancer patients? What if I have AIDS, or heart disease, diabetes, etc?

Will there be break-out sessions so I will have to choose which one to go to?

How can I meet others with the same kind of cancer I have?

Will there be bottled water available at the conference?

If I sign up for Continuing Education, when will I receive my certificate?

Are there restaurants in the area where I can get lunch if I don’t order the box lunch?

I get tired easily and don’t think I can sit all day. Is there a place I can rest?

Can I park close to the theater?

Do I have to pay for parking?

I can’t drive right now. Are there car pools?

How can I find a hotel room?

I’d like to share a hotel room. Is there help for room-sharing?

  • Can someone come with me if they aren’t pre-registered?

Yes, someone can come without pre-registering. They will not be able to purchase lunch because it must be pre-ordered before September 12th, and they will need to register onsite.

  • Can I come to only part of the conference if I can’t come to all of it?

Yes, you can attend as much or as little as you are able. It is designed so you will receive the most benefit if you attend the whole conference. If you need to rest, there will be a Comfort room available for taking little naps during the day.

  • Can my husband (or wife, sister, son, friend, etc.) come with me?

Yes, we encourage family members and friends to attend.

  • Is this only for cancer patients? What if I have AIDS (or heart disease, diabetes, etc.)?

This conference focuses on healing rather than curing. Healing is the same for everyone, no matter what disease you have experienced. Many people, with or without disease, have said they benefited from attending this conference.

  • Will there be break-out sessions so I will have to choose which one to go to?

Everyone will be in the large auditorium for the whole conference. You won’t miss anything.

  • How can I meet others with the same kind of cancer I have?

If you stay for lunch, there will be signs on the tables for various groups and you can choose who you would like to sit with. For example, “lung cancer,” or “women with double mastectomies.” Also, if you choose to be identified, your name badge will have a sticker on it and you can look for others with the same sticker (for example, an open winged butterfly if you have lung cancer).

  • Will there be bottled water available at the conference?

No. Instead, we will provide a water station with filtered water and recommend you bring your own closed container. Only closed containers will be allowed in the auditorium.

  • If I sign up for Continuing Education, when will I receive my certificate?

It will be available for you to pick up at the Information Table in the lobby as you leave, as long as you have signed in at the Continuing Education area.

  • Are there restaurants in the area where I can get lunch if I don’t order the box lunch?

There are restaurants in the small town of Yountville, about a 5 minute drive from the Lincoln Theater. There are no restaurants within easy walking distance. You may also bring your lunch.

  • I get tired easily and don’t think I can sit all day. Is there a place I can rest?

There will be a Comfort Room with some futons and lounge chairs where you can rest if you need to.

  • Can I park close to the theater?

The parking lots are a short walk. If you have difficulty with walking, we recommend you have someone drop you off right in front of the theater. Click to see the Driving & Parking Directions.

  • Do I have to pay for parking?

No. There are free parking lots available at the Lincoln Theater, and there are specific ones we may park in. Click to see the Driving & Parking Directions. Please note: Parking is limited. Please carpool if you can.

  • I can’t drive right now. Are there car pools?

If you NEED a ride, or can OFFER a ride to someone in need, please send an email to info@healingjourneys.org BEFORE September 3rd. We will compile a list and send it to everyone on the list so you can contact each other and make car pool arrangements. Please include the following information:

  • How can I find a hotel room?

We have researched hotels in Napa Valley and were not able to block a group of rooms at a particular hotel. Here are some options for you to find a hotel:

    1. Napa Valley Reservations can find hotel rooms in Napa. You can call them and tell them what you’re looking for, and they might be able to help you, at no charge to you. They can offer a better rate if you are a AAA member. (800) 251-6272 or www.napavalleyreservations.com

    2. To find an inexpensive hotel, you may need to stay in American Canyon or Vallejo. Check out Hotels.com — they get a better rate than if you book a hotel directly. 800-2hotels (246-8357) or www.hotels.com

At this point, yes. We will only make lunch for the number pre-registered, so they may not receive lunch. If the workshop sells out, they cannot come. We will update this information here and on our Homepage if it sells out, so please check right before the workshop. The late registration fee, after September 19th, is $125.

  • Will this workshop be too scientific for the average person to grasp?

This workshop will provide nutrition information for the average person, as well as the scientific evidence that health professionals want. The cooking demonstration will be useful for anyone who cooks. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions, so if you don’t understand something, please ask.

  • Is it possible to get a vegan lunch? Gluten-free? Dairy-free?

Yes. Lunch will be served buffet-style and all of Rebecca’s recipes we are using are delicious and nutritious vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

Yes. The Bastyr Dining Hall staff are providing a healthy continental breakfast. There will be hot teas. We are not providing coffee, but it is available for purchase nearby.

The presentations that will be given by Jeanne Wallace and Rebecca Katz were recorded at a previous workshop and those DVDs are available for purchase now. They are wonderful to view over and over again, and to share with family and friends or give as gifts. Click here to see them in our webstore.

  • Are there scholarships available?

We have a limited number of scholarships available for cancer patients, survivors, and their families and support people, who are financially challenged. Click here to fill out an application by September 12th.

  • I can’t come on September 23. Will this workshop be repeated?

It will be repeated on November 4th, 2011 in Sacramento, CA. It will also be offered in Mountain View, CA on October 22nd with Lise Alschuler, ND, teaching the part that Jeanne Wallace is teaching in Seattle and Sacramento. Rebecca Katz will be at all three workshops.

Another option to attending the workshop is to view the workshop on DVD. The presentations that will be given by Jeanne Wallace and Rebecca Katz were recorded at a previous workshop and those DVDs are available for purchase now.   • Do I have to pay for parking?

No, but you will need to have a “parking pass” visible in your car. You will receive it with your confirmation letter. If you forget to bring it with you, ask for a new one at registration, or get one from the green post in the parking lot and fill it in with the date and workshop information. You may also print one from our website by clicking here.
